We have all seen the stationary bike in the corner of a friend’s bedroom, used now only as a clothes hangar! Exercise equipment is expensive and it takes up space. If you are considering the purchase of a piece of sports equipment, free weights, stationary bike, or any other piece of home fitness equipment, you should first consider the reality of home fitness initiatives. The fact is that most home fitness equipment is not used enough to warrant the purchase.

If you really want to get started on a fitness program, you may want to join a local gym. If you are successful in getting into a fitness routine, the fitness club will give you plenty of fitness equipment to use and you can take advantage of the various workouts you’ll get with all of this sports equipment. Your home fitness equipment can only provide one type of workout and you probably don’t have room for the rowing machine, the stationary bike, the treadmill and the weight machine in your family room. Once you establish a schedule and get into a fitness routine, you can always decide to buy your favorite piece of sports equipment for your home.

If you do not have the room for sports exercise equipment in your home and you can’t afford a gym membership, you can consider buying DVDs and videos you can use in your home. You might need a small step unit or an exercise ball to workout with the video, but you won’t need a lot of floor space for a large piece of sports equipment.  

If you are buying outdoor sports equipment for your child, be very careful about your purchase. You should thoroughly explore the safety features, the installation procedures and the maintenance requirements to be sure that workout equipment or pro sports equipment is safe. You should also consider the use of this equipment by others. Even if your yard is fenced off, with a locked gate to ensure that others do not get hurt using your sports equipment, you could still be responsible for personal injury and property damage incurred by your child’s friends using the equipment installed in your yard.
